Spring Travel Hockey

Registration Status: Closed

Spring teams have formed, join us for our summer programs.

Overview

Wilmette Tribe Mite House Travel League is for players aged 6-8 (birth year 2011, 2012 or 2013).

For Spring Devo and Mite House League, please visit the Spring House pageIf your player is birth year 2010 or older, they are now considered Squirts. Please visit the Wilmette Braves Hockey Club for Squirts and other youth leagues.

Is Spring Travel Right for my Child?

The goal of the program is to expose entry level Travel players to full ice,  fast paced travel hockey in a low-key, accessible way. Additionally, we want to take experienced Mite Travel players and continue to develop their skills and maturity as hockey players.

Led by the Wilmette Tribe and Wilmette Braves professional travel coaches, your child will begin to learn the approach, habits, preparation and love for playing hockey at the Travel level. They will be exposed to two skill development sessions per week and games on the weekends. Kids will learn to manage their own equipment, get ready for battle and hit the ice ready for a game.

All Spring Travel teams are part of the same league as the fall mite travel teams - CUHL (Chicago United Hockey League) except it is designed to be more 'local' - playing teams around the Northshore community.  The season ends with a full 'local' tournament experience.

We will encourage focus on the bench, short shifts and a higher tempo game. Most important, we encourage having fun because hockey is a game--the best game in the universe!

For new players to the Travel level, Spring Travel is a great introduction and way to get a taste of what the Fall Experience is about. For current Fall Travel/ House Plus players it is a continuation of the current experience with some new aspects such as very popular weekly 3 v 3 battles.

Try Outs

 Players must attend ALL sessions.

  • Wed March 13th, 5:30PM-6:30PM @ Centennial
  • Saturday March 16th, 10:20AM-11:30PM @ Centennial

Rosters will be announced by 3/20.

Please keep in mind our Wilmette Tribe Hockey Club goals.  In the big picture, we are attempting to "teach kids through hockey" and provide long lasting, important, life skill lessons.

Additionally and importantly, travel hockey is competitive hockey.  Individual players have ambition and want to make the highest playing level team possible. Players that earn that opportunity will be provided that opportunity.  Thus, at each tryout, the opportunity to make the highest playing level team is afforded to all players--equally.  Using all of our resources, our coaches will attempt to choose and place the most competitive team as possible.

Click here to see criteria used by Wilmette Coaches to place players.

Friend requests are not accepted for the Travel program. Any players that did not make the travel team is eligible for the Tribe House league.

NOTE: Try outs are 'Closed'. Parents are welcome to help get their players dressed and ready, but then will be asked to wait outside the ice arena viewing area and not observe. This helps our players and coaches perform at their best.

Goalies

Goalies are the anchor of each team and vital to success.

Part Time Goalie:  means they will share the net with another goalie. You will work with the coach to determine if you split the net each game or trade off games (rotate between skating a full game and being in the net for the game).

Goalie gear for the Spring Travel season is provided by the club.

We offer a registration discount for players that sign up to be Part Time Goalie.  Goalie spots are limited and we may close goalie registration if we fill the position.
